Il Nido House

American oak cabinetry brings warmth, continuity and practical storage to a compact Carlton North home designed around every available metre.

American oak wall cabinetry at Il Nido House in Carlton North

The project

Warmth built into every metre.

Il Nido means “the nest”. Within its compact footprint, we used American oak cabinetry to create a continuous material language across the home. The joinery brings warmth and texture while supporting the careful spatial planning by Angelucci Architects.

Storage is integrated into the architecture instead of added as an afterthought. A restrained 10% matte finish keeps the oak tactile and natural, while Elba marble provides a quiet counterpoint in the kitchen.

The American oak veneer gives fitted storage a consistent presence without making the compact rooms feel crowded. Grain, alignment and the relationship between doors and surrounding surfaces were resolved so the cabinetry reads as part of the architecture.

In the kitchen, Elba marble introduces a lighter, mineral surface against the oak. Together, the two materials create a warm and restrained palette that connects practical storage with the home’s wider sense of enclosure and calm.
